Small, Fast and Great Battery Life.
This is my first Sony laptop ever!!!!!
I recently had a Hp Dv2000t 14′ laptop and I thought that was a good starter laptop. The Hp had a great Intel Processor and was well priced(wait for coupons online). The large downside of the Hp was the 2 hour battery life(under normal use-internet, office software and mulitimedia). I mean its hard for a student to find some wall outlets in the library or on campus to use the laptop; screen was ok, keyboard was above average; main reason for getting the Sony TT was the battery life and weight.
Ive tested the battery life and taking notes of the Battery Percentages and noticed that the laptop was able to give me over 5 hours. The Sony Z and SR series laptops advertise 6hrs, so they should give you less( 3.5-4hrs). The TT160 weighs little and looks awesome. The left side of the laptop has 2 USB, headphone, microphone,HDMI and ethernet(covered with stylish metallic cover). The right side has the power button(green LED), CD/DVD drive, and that VGA monitor output. You can connect to an external monitor and choose to keep the laptop monitor off or on(use function keys). The front has a memory stick reader, SD reader, wireless control switch, mute button, volume button, S1(customizable button), and the DVD/CD eject button.

The screen is thin and very clear for a small size. Great viewing angles and adjustable brightness-of course. There’s also a webcam, but I haven’t used it nor do I plan on it unless I want to participate in some “appropriate” video conference…haha.

The keyboard is different. The keys are elevated and could be small for people with larger hands. I had no problems cause I inherited my mom’s hands I guess the laptop is made of some kick butt carbon fiber. Cool. The material on the laptop surfaces is hard to smear with oily fingers. The bottom of the laptop looks cool and rigid.

Vista Business was preloaded with many other Vaio software. People complain about this bloatware, but it is very easy to get rid of them by uninstalling it. Also ran msconfig and disabled many startup software that were not used often. The result is a good speed laptop for ultraportable use.

ALso the left side is the thermal vent. Metallic sides give the laptop a cool look that will impress.

Things to think about:
1. Processor is the 1.2ghz SU9300 with 3MB L2 cache(kinda above average for small laptop). There’s another processor, SU9400 with 1.4ghz and the same amount of Cache.
2. I got the standard 160GB hard drive that seems to work fine. You can upgrade to a different TT model and get the SSD for $$$ more.
3. This is a small laptop, but you can consider the Z and the SR series for 2 more inches of room. They are certainly smaller than other 13 inch laptops, but think about the battery life as some owners report having their Z series last around 2.5 hrs despite Sony’s 6hr. Personally Im guessing 4 hours on Z and SR. I would go for the Z570 as it has an excellent processor and all aluminum keyboard that feels and looks well.
SR series is made of magnesium alloy that weighs 0.5 lbs more than the Z series, but costs around $400 less.
4. The power adaptor is small and also has green LED integrated in it. I’d get a small pouch to protect the charger and the 11inch Sony carrying case for the laptop.
5. The touchpad works well. Doesnt get in your way when you type and looks pretty. The left and right buttons are metallic and clicks easily and is not too loud. Fingerprint reader hasnt been used but can be ignored.

In conclusion…no regrets from this laptop. I carry it to school in my normal backpack(insde a case), but I do worry that people will steal it since it is so darn cool.

Why are they always sold out?
I love these quality little powerhouses. Expensive ya but not as much as my 1st $4000.00 Vaio model. This VGN-TT160N has much more computing power but less $ than my first 11’1 Vaio. Built very solid, awesome display, great battery life. That’s All…..thanks Sony!
